Inflation erodes savings, but only wage inflation erodes debt. That's one of the reasons that inflation is to be battled.

OK, but why should prudent savers (often pensioners who carefully avoided borrowing too much) find he value of their savings eroded by the inflation caused by the printing?

Sorry I think you miss my point. 
 
Printing dollars creates asset inflation and doesn't necessarily create the wage inflation that would erode the debt for those who messed up and borrowed too much. 
 
I'm hyper anti-inflation.
